Easy Recipe for Tandoori Chicken

The tandoori chicken is a well known traditional Indian recipe for a slightly spicy chicken dish, in which the chicken has taken a vivid red color... To achieve this, the chicken is left to marinate for a long time in a special marinade. This gives the meat a nice grilled chicken red-orange color and that flavour we cherish. This dish is very tasty while typically not being spicy-hot, by indian standards. This Tandoori chicken recipe is easy to make but it will require some planning ahead because of the lenght of time for which the chicken has to marinate. The name of this dish comed from the indian traditional clay oven, the Tandoor, into which the Naan bread and this chicken are cooked.

Here are the ingredients necessary to make the recipe for this tandoori chicken, for 6 people:

- 8 chicken breasts and six thighs
- 2 cups yogurt, not reduced in fat
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg powder
- 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground chili powder
- 1 / 4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- salt


1) Naturally we will start this tandoori chicken recipe by preparing the marinade. In a large bowl, mix all the spices with the lemon juice and the yogurt.

2) Now let's prepare the chicken meat, by cutting the chicken breasts and thighs in halves, and by making a few shallow incisions in the meat to facilitate how the spices aromas will penetrate the flesh... Season the chicken pieces with salt then put them in the marinade, and mix so that the chicken is well coated in it. Cover with plastic wrap or tight fitting lid and marinate for at least 6 hours in the refrigerator; this can go up to 24 hours in the fridge.

3) Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Place chicken pieces on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes. Brush regularly the chicken with remaining marinade and turn the pieces occasionally. Check if your chicken is done with a knife, if the inner chicken meat is no longer pink it is cooked.
